PM Modi calls for manufacturing push, sustainability focus in post-Budget webinar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said this year’s Union Budget reinforces the government’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening economic growth, urging industry and stakeholders to seize emerging global opportunities.

Addressing the second installment of the post-Budget webinar series on the theme “Sustaining and Strengthening Economic Growth,” the Prime Minister underlined that India’s direction and resolve are clear – “Build more, produce more, connect more, export more.”

Highlighting the ongoing transformation in the global economy, PM Modi noted that global supply chains are being reshaped and the world is looking for reliable and resilient manufacturing partners.

“India has the opportunity to firmly fulfill this role,” he said, adding that the country’s robust economic growth provides a strong foundation for the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

The Prime Minister stressed that manufacturing, logistics, MSMEs and urban centres are interconnected pillars of the economy. Manufacturing boosts exports, while competitive MSMEs drive flexibility and innovation, he observed, adding that the current Budget has strengthened all these sectors.

Referring to India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with several countries, PM Modi said a “very large door of opportunities” has opened for Indian businesses. However, he cautioned that industries must never compromise on quality.

He urged businesses to study global consumer preferences and develop user-friendly, high-quality products to fully leverage FTA-driven market access.

The Prime Minister highlighted government initiatives aimed at strengthening core capabilities and removing bottlenecks in manufacturing. These include focus areas such as dedicated rare earth corridors and container manufacturing to bolster the trade ecosystem.

He also referred to the ‘Biopharma Shakti Mission’, announced in the Budget, which aims to position India as a global hub for biologics and next-generation therapies.

On MSMEs, PM Modi said recent classification reforms have removed the fear of expansion among small enterprises. While the government continues to ease access to credit and technology, he stressed that MSMEs must increase productivity, improve quality standards, and integrate into global value chains and digital processes.

Calling infrastructure and logistics the backbone of national growth, the Prime Minister pointed to record capital expenditure allocations in the Budget. He mentioned high-speed rail expansion, multi-modal connectivity and ship repair facilities as critical to improving efficiency.

He urged industry and investors to align their strategies with the infrastructure push to realise its full benefits.

On urbanisation, PM Modi said India’s future growth is closely linked to effective planning and management of cities. He sought suggestions on how Tier-II and Tier-III cities can emerge as new growth centres.

Addressing the global shift toward environmentally conscious markets, the Prime Minister said economic competitiveness is no longer judged by cost alone but also by sustainability.

He highlighted the ‘Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage Mission’ as an important initiative and called on industries to integrate clean technologies into their core business strategies.

“The industries that invest in clean technology in time will be able to build better access to new markets in the coming years,” he said.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister called for “collective ownership” in achieving the goal of a developed India, urging stakeholders to move beyond deliberations and translate ideas into action in partnership with the government.
