Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held bilateral talks with Finland President Alexander Stubb at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, discussing ways to further strengthen ties between India and Finland across multiple sectors.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the two leaders deliberated on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including collaboration in multilateral forums. PM Modi also hosted a luncheon in honour of the visiting Finnish leader.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on President Stubb in New Delhi and expressed confidence that high-level engagements would further strengthen relations between the two countries. He also said he looked forward to the Finnish President’s address later in the day at the Raisina Dialogue 2026.
President Stubb also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before his meeting with the Prime Minister.
The Finnish President arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday on a three-day State Visit to India at the invitation of PM Modi. This is his first visit to India since assuming office. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome upon arrival and received a Guard of Honour.
President Stubb is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials and prominent business leaders. During his visit, he will serve as the Chief Guest and keynote speaker at the 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.
As part of his engagements, Stubb is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan.
Following his engagements in the national capital, the Finnish leader will travel to Mumbai where he will meet Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He will also interact with Indian business leaders, participate in an India–Finland business event, and address students at the University of Mumbai.
The visit follows the recent trip of Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo to India for the AI Impact Summit 2026, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to expand cooperation across sectors and deepen people-to-people ties.
