PM Modi shares pics of Noida International Airport ahead of inauguration on March 28

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday shared photographs of the Noida International Airport ahead of its inauguration, describing it as a major boost to connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR).

“Big boost for NCR connectivity! Phase I of Noida International Airport at Jewar will be inaugurated tomorrow,” PM Modi said in a post on WhatsApp.

PM Modi is scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh on March 28, where he will undertake a walkthrough of the terminal building before formally inaugurating the airport and addressing a public gathering.

Major Milestone for India’s Aviation Sector

The launch of the Noida International Airport marks a significant step in India’s efforts to strengthen its aviation infrastructure and emerge as a global aviation hub.

Envisioned as a key international gateway for NCR, the airport will serve as the second international airport for the region, complementing the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Together, the two airports are expected to function as an integrated aviation system, easing congestion and expanding passenger capacity.

World-Class Infrastructure and Capacity

Developed as one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects, Phase I of the airport has been built at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Key features include:

* Initial passenger handling capacity of 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA)

* Scalable capacity of up to 70 MPPA upon full development

* A 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft

* Advanced navigation systems, including Instrument Landing System (ILS) and modern airfield lighting for all-weather, round-the-clock operations

Boost to Cargo and Logistics

The airport also includes a robust cargo ecosystem with a multi-modal cargo hub, comprising an integrated cargo terminal and logistics zones.

* Initial cargo handling capacity of over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually

* Expandable up to 18 lakh metric tonnes

* Dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility

Sustainable and Future-Ready Design

Designed as a net-zero emissions facility, the airport integrates energy-efficient systems and environmentally sustainable practices.

Its architecture draws inspiration from Indian heritage, incorporating elements reminiscent of traditional ghats and havelis, blending cultural aesthetics with modern infrastructure.

Strategic Connectivity Hub

Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is being developed as a multi-modal transport hub, with seamless connectivity across road, rail, metro, and regional transit networks to facilitate efficient passenger and cargo movement.
