Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the nation in the 132nd edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, highlighting the global turbulence caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its implications for India’s energy security and citizens abroad.
Referring to the prolonged instability in the region, the Prime Minister said the world has continued to face crises even after recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the ongoing war in India’s neighbourhood has impacted millions, including a large Indian diaspora residing in Gulf countries.
Expressing gratitude, PM Modi thanked Gulf nations for extending support to over one crore Indians living and working in the region. He emphasized that their safety and well-being remain a priority for the government.
The Prime Minister also drew attention to the potential impact of the conflict on global energy supplies, stating that the region is a key source of India’s energy needs. He acknowledged that rising geopolitical tensions have led to concerns over petrol and diesel availability worldwide.
Despite the challenges, PM Modi asserted that India is “resolutely facing” the situation, backed by strong international partnerships and the country’s growing capabilities over the past decade.
Calling for national unity, the Prime Minister urged citizens to stand together in dealing with the crisis. He cautioned against the spread of misinformation and advised people to rely only on official sources for updates.
“There is no place for self-serving politics in matters concerning the nation’s interest,” he said, appealing to individuals and groups not to politicise the situation. He also warned that rumours could harm the country and stressed the importance of vigilance among citizens.
PM Modi expressed confidence that India would overcome the current challenges through collective strength, much like it has done during past crises.
