Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep grief over a tragic road accident in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “The mishap in Surendranagar district, Gujarat, is deeply distressing. Heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
According to police officials, the accident occurred in the early hours between 1:00 am and 1:30 am on the Lakhtar–Viramgam highway near Bhaskarpara village.
A group of devotees travelling on foot from Rajkot towards Bahucharaji was struck from behind by a speeding truck. The pilgrims, belonging to the Bharwad community, were part of a larger group undertaking a religious journey for temple darshan and a flag-hoisting ritual.
Superintendent of Police Vedika Bihani said that six members of the group initially died in the collision. Another truck driver present at the spot between halted vehicles was also killed, taking the total death toll to seven.
