Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended his best wishes to veteran journalist-turned-politician Harivansh Narayan Singh following his nomination to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Shri Harivansh Ji has made invaluable contributions to journalism and public life. He is a respected intellectual and thinker. With his profound thoughts and insights, he has enriched the proceedings of the House over the past few years.”
PM Modi added, “I am delighted that the Honorable President has nominated him to the Rajya Sabha. My very best wishes to him for the upcoming parliamentary term!”
Harivansh’s nomination comes after the completion of his previous term as a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar on April 9. The 69-year-old leader has been serving as the Deputy Chairman of the Upper House since 2018 and is widely regarded for his balanced and composed conduct during proceedings.
This marks his third term in the Rajya Sabha. He first entered the Upper House in 2014 and was re-elected in 2020.
Over the years, Harivansh has served on several key committees, including the Business Advisory Committee, Committee on Rules, and the General Purposes Committee, and has chaired panels such as the Committee of Privileges and the MPLADS Committee.
