Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Pained to hear about the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
He also announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, and ₹50,000 for the injured.
According to officials, a passenger bus travelling from Ramnagar to Udhampur town met overturned near Kanote village.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh provided an update on the tragic incident through a post on X. He said, “In the tragic road accident of a transport bus near Kaghote Nalla, as of now, 16 persons have died on the spot, and several others have sustained serious injuries. Rescue and evacuation operations are currently underway with teams from Police, SDRF, and District administration on site. The injured are being shifted to GMC Udhampur for urgent medical treatment. I and my office are in constant touch.”
J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and chief minister Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over the tragic incident.
