PM Modi highlights women’s role in nation-building at Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday underscored the transformative role of women in India’s development while addressing the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, which coincided with Baisakhi celebrations, the Prime Minister also paid tribute to the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

“A Historic Decision for Nari Shakti”

Describing the moment as significant, PM Modi said, “India is about to take one of the biggest decisions of the 21st century, a decision dedicated to Nari Shakti.”

He added that Parliament is on the verge of creating history, noting, “The wait of decades, from state assemblies to the nation’s Parliament, is coming to an end.”

Referring to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act passed in 2023, the Prime Minister said, “The Nari Shakti Vandan Act must be implemented on time so that women’s participation strengthens our democracy.” He further emphasized, “Our effort and priority is that this work should be accomplished through dialogue, cooperation and participation, which will enhance the dignity of Parliament.”

Call for Women’s Participation

Highlighting growing aspirations among women, PM Modi urged, “I appeal to all women to maintain their active participation in this entire process and meet their MPs to share their perspectives and expectations.”

Women’s Leadership and Governance

Praising women’s contributions, the Prime Minister said, “India’s Nari Shakti has made immense contributions.” He noted that women have played a key role from the freedom struggle to nation-building and added, “From President to Prime Minister, wherever women have been, they have created their own legacy.”

Highlighting grassroots governance, PM Modi said, “In our country, the Panchayati Raj institutions are a remarkable example of women’s leadership.” He pointed out that over 14 lakh women are serving in local bodies, with participation reaching nearly 50% in several states.

He added that increased participation has improved governance, stating, “When women’s participation in decision-making processes increased, it brought sensitivity to systems.”

Women in Development and Welfare

Emphasizing inclusive development, the Prime Minister said, “The government is supporting women at every stage of life.”

Listing key initiatives, PM Modi referred to schemes like Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Mission Indradhanush, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

He highlighted financial empowerment, saying, “In the past 11 years, over 3 crore women have benefited from this decision and become owners of their homes, making them economically empowered.”

On financial inclusion, PM Modi said, “Today our daughters are creating their identity in new businesses, with over 60 percent of Mudra Yojana loans taken by women.”

Women Breaking Barriers

The Prime Minister emphasized changing societal norms, stating, “Today, women are excelling even in sectors once considered male-dominated.”

He added, “India has the highest percentage of women pilots compared to any country in the world.”

Highlighting education, PM Modi said that women’s participation in higher education and research has significantly increased, reflecting expanding opportunities.

Self-Reliance and Entrepreneurship

Noting the rise of women entrepreneurs, PM Modi said, “These women are becoming brand ambassadors of Vocal for Local.”

He also highlighted the success of self-help groups and initiatives like ‘Lakhpati Didi’, stating that millions of women are becoming financially independent.

Safety and Legal Reforms

Addressing safety concerns, the Prime Minister said the government has strengthened legal mechanisms, including provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and introduced measures like e-FIR and fast-track courts.

“Expand Opportunities for Women”

Reaffirming his vision, PM Modi said, “India’s Nari Shakti have reached new heights through their hard work, courage and confidence; now, we must come together to empower them further by expanding opportunities.”

In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister urged collective action, stating, “Let us all together resolve that Nari Shakti will have their rights and they will become full participants in the decision-making process – this is the biggest guarantee of our bright future.”
