President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday inaugurated a series of key infrastructure projects in Rourkela, including a Planetarium and Science Centre, Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path, a Tribal Museum, and an Integrated Command and Control Centre. The projects are aimed at boosting scientific awareness, preserving tribal heritage, and strengthening urban governance in the region.
Addressing a public gathering, the President highlighted the rich natural beauty, cultural heritage, and vibrant traditions of Sundargarh, describing it as a land known for its forests, rivers, and sporting spirit. She noted that Rourkela, as a cosmopolitan city, has played a significant role in promoting Odisha’s art, literature, tribal traditions, and sports, while attracting people from across the country for livelihood opportunities.
Emphasising inclusive development, Murmu said that the nation’s progress depends on the upliftment of all sections of society, particularly tribal communities. She pointed out that both the Centre and the state governments are implementing welfare schemes to accelerate development in tribal-dominated districts like Sundargarh, with a focus on economic empowerment.
Calling for collective participation, the President urged citizens to contribute actively to nation-building and support those left behind. She expressed confidence that India is on track to become a developed nation by 2047, while noting that Odisha will mark 100 years of its formation in 2036. She stressed that achieving the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” and “Viksit Odisha” will require the combined efforts of all sections of society, including farmers, labourers, youth, and tribal communities.
