Punjab bus accident: PM Modi condoles loss of lives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over a tragic bus accident in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, “Pained to hear about the mishap in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

The accident occurred near Bhateri village on the Chunni-Morinda road in the Bassi Pathana area when a bus carrying devotees overturned while returning from Sri Anandpur Sahib after offering prayers on the occasion of Baisakhi.

According to police officials, around 30-40 passengers were on board at the time of the incident.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shubham Aggarwal said the injured, including women and children, were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals in Morinda and Fatehgarh Sahib, while critically injured passengers were referred to the PGIMER Chandigarh for advanced treatment.

Station House Officer Balvir Singh said police received information about the accident around 10 a.m., following which rescue teams rushed to the spot. Local residents also assisted in rescue efforts before emergency services arrived. A forensic team has been deployed to investigate the exact cause of the accident.
