Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, holding discussions on key development priorities and future growth prospects of the northeastern state.
The meeting, described as cordial and constructive, focused on strengthening cooperation between the Centre and the state, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, sustainable growth, and public welfare.
Focus on Development and Growth
Following the meeting, Tamang said he had a “warm, cordial, and meaningful interaction” with the Prime Minister, during which he apprised him of Sikkim’s emerging needs and ongoing development initiatives.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of enhanced central support to accelerate infrastructure projects and ensure inclusive growth in the state.
Nathu La Trade Route to Reopen
A key point of discussion was the reopening of the Nathu La Pass trade route, part of the historic Silk Route, which is scheduled to resume operations from June 2026.
Tamang expressed gratitude to the Centre for the move, noting that it is expected to provide a significant boost to local communities and traders in the region.
Invitation for Statehood Celebrations
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also invited PM Modi to attend the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee celebrations marking 50 years of statehood.
Tamang said that the Prime Minister has accepted the invitation.
Appreciation for Centre’s Support
The Chief Minister acknowledged the continued support and guidance extended by the Union government towards Sikkim’s development, thanking PM Modi for initiatives aimed at boosting the state’s progress and prosperity.
