The first International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit, originally scheduled to be held in New Delhi on June 1, has been postponed following the rescheduling of the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV), the government said on Thursday.
The summit was planned alongside IAFS IV, considering the significant role of African nations in global big cat conservation efforts. Several African countries are home to major big cat species and are key partners in biodiversity protection, ecological sustainability and wildlife conservation initiatives.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the decision was taken after consultations with the Chairperson of the African Union and the African Union Commission, who agreed to convene the India-Africa Forum Summit at a later date.
“In order to ensure broad and active participation from all range countries, including African countries, the First IBCA Summit too will be convened at a later date,” the ministry said.
Fresh dates for the summit will be announced after consultations with participating nations and stakeholders.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said that India remains firmly committed to working with all partners to advance the shared objectives of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
