Marco Rubio calls Taj Mahal a ‘true treasure of the world’ during visit with wife Jeanette

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday visited the iconic Taj Mahal along with his wife, Jeanette Rubio, describing the monument as “one of the true treasures of the world.”

The couple spent nearly one-and-a-half hours at the UNESCO World Heritage site in Agra and later penned a message in the visitors’ book, writing, “Thank you for allowing us to visit one of the true treasures of the World.”

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also accompanied the Rubios during the visit.

The Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, has long remained a major attraction for global leaders and dignitaries visiting India.

Last year, US Vice President JD Vance visited the monument with his wife Usha Vance and their children – Vivek, Mirabel, and Ewan.

US President Donald Trump had also toured the Taj Mahal during his first presidential term alongside former First Lady Melania Trump. During that visit, Trump described the monument as “a timeless testament to the rich and diverse beauty of Indian culture.”

According to the official Taj Mahal website, the monument is regarded as the finest example of Mughal architecture, blending Persian, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1983, calling it “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.”

Rubio’s Agra visit is part of his four-day trip to India, during which he is scheduled to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Tuesday.
