Mulayam Singh’s younger son Prateek Yadav dies, UP CM Yogi Adityanath condoles death

Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Aparna Yadav, passed away at a civil hospital in Lucknow on Wednesday morning.

Prateek Yadav, the stepbrother of Akhilesh Yadav, was brought to the hospital by family members, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed. Officials said further details are expected after the post-mortem examination.

Prateek was the son of Sadhna Gupta, the second wife of Mulayam. Despite belonging to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most prominent political families, he largely stayed away from active politics and focused on business and fitness ventures in Lucknow.

The Samajwadi Party condoled his demise in a post on X, saying, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of Prateek Yadav. May God grant peace to the departed soul.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed grief over Prateek Yadav’s untimely demise.

“The sudden demise of Shri Prateek Yadav Ji, son of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Padma Vibhushan awardee late Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji, and husband of Smt. Aparna Yadav Ji, Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, is extremely heartbreaking. Humble tributes to the departed soul. My condolences are with the bereaved family,” Yogi Adityanath said in a post on X.

“I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the grieving family to bear this immense loss,” he added.

Prateek married Aparna in 2011, who contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from Lucknow Cantonment on SP ticket.

She later joined the BJP in 2022 and was appointed Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission in 2024.
