PM Modi, Finland PM hold talks on digitalisation, AI and sustainability at India-Nordic Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held talks with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on the sidelines of the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, with a focus on strategic partnership in digitalization and sustainability.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the discussions centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, artificial intelligence, 5G and 6G technologies, quantum technologies, renewable energy, sustainability, circular economy and innovation.

The two leaders also discussed expanding partnerships in education, mobility and people-to-people exchanges as India and Finland continue to deepen strategic engagement.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Delighted to meet the Prime Minister of Finland, Mr. Petteri Orpo. This year has witnessed extensive engagements as far as India and Finland are concerned. PM Orpo himself had come to India for the AI Impact Summit. Our meeting today is aimed at giving new energy to bilateral relations.”

“We spoke of working together in futuristic sectors like 6G, AI, education, nuclear energy and more. We also discussed how to deepen linkages in climate change, circular economy, sustainable development and more,” he added.

During the meeting, the two leaders underlined the importance of the early implementation of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to further strengthen trade and economic ties between India and European nations.

They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern during the talks held alongside the India-Nordic Summit in Norway.
