PM Modi meets representatives of Janjati Suraksha Manch, discusses tribal development and empowerment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met representatives of the Janjati Suraksha Manch in New Delhi.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Today, I had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Janjati Suraksha Manch in New Delhi. Their dedication to the tribal community is truly commendable. During this meeting, we engaged in meaningful discussions on various topics related to the development of tribal communities and their empowerment.”

The meeting comes amid renewed focus by the Centre on tribal welfare and the preservation of tribal identity, culture and traditions.

Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the contributions of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda while addressing the ‘Janjati Sanskritik Samagam’ in Delhi.

HM Shah said Birsa Munda had spread the message of protecting faith, forests and identity among tribal communities and noted that his Ulgulan movement had shaken the foundations of British rule.

The Home Minister said forests, hills and water bodies are central to the faith, livelihood and cultural identity of tribal communities and described the tribal way of life as one of the world’s most sustainable models.

“For our tribal brothers and sisters, forests, hills and water bodies are centres of faith, livelihood and cultural identity,” HM Shah said, adding that tribal communities have long upheld the principle of “unity in diversity and diversity in unity”.
