Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New Delhi.
The meeting took place during Lavrov’s visit to India for the two-day BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting being hosted in New Delhi under India’s 2026 chairship of the grouping.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Lavrov briefed PM Modi on the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation since the meeting of the two leaders in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
Lavrov and PM Modi exchanged views on various regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Ukraine and West Asia.
During the meeting, PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent stand in of dialogue and diplomacy as the best way forward.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his warm greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin through Foreign Minister Lavrov.
India and Russia share a longstanding strategic partnership spanning defence, energy, trade, nuclear cooperation and multilateral engagement. The meeting comes amid continued diplomatic consultations between the two countries on regional security and global geopolitical developments.
