Rajasthan on Friday entered India’s fast-growing semiconductor ecosystem with the inauguration of the state’s first semiconductor plant and a new Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) at Bhiwadi, marking a major boost to electronics manufacturing in northern India.
Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated the Semiconductor ATMP/OSAT facility of Sahasra Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd. and the EMC developed by ELCINA Electronics Manufacturing Cluster Pvt. Ltd. at Salarpur, Khushkhera in Bhiwadi.
The event was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav.
Calling it a “historic day” for Rajasthan, Vaishnaw said the state’s entry into the semiconductor sector marks a significant step in India’s efforts to become a global hub for electronics and chip manufacturing under the Make in India and Digital India initiatives.
He highlighted the rapid growth of India’s electronics sector over the last 12 years, stating that electronics production has increased six-fold to nearly ₹13 lakh crore, while exports have risen to around ₹4.24 lakh crore. Mobile phones, he noted, have now become India’s top export commodity.
The newly inaugurated semiconductor facility of Sahasra Semiconductors is India’s first Small and Medium Enterprise-led unit to begin commercial production of semiconductor chips. Developed under the Ministry of Electronics and IT’s SPECS scheme, the plant has been set up with an investment of over ₹150 crore.
Spread across 57,000 square feet, the facility includes advanced Class 10K and 100K cleanrooms and will package memory chips used in Micro SD cards, flash storage devices, LED driver ICs, eSIMs and RFID products.
The unit currently has an annual packaging capacity of 60 million semiconductor units and plans to scale up production to 400–600 million units annually over the next two to three years. More than 60 per cent of its production is already being exported to markets including the United States, Germany, France, Eastern Europe, China and Nepal.
The company also plans to expand into semiconductor research and development, including LED driver chips and other advanced semiconductor products, while supporting skill development in semiconductor packaging and high-tech manufacturing.
Alongside the semiconductor unit, the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster developed by ELCINA has emerged as a major electronics hub in the region. Built over 50.3 acres with a project cost of ₹46.09 crore, the cluster received ₹20.24 crore in central government support under the EMC scheme.
The cluster has already attracted planned investments of over ₹1,200 crore from 20 companies engaged in semiconductor packaging, electronic components, EV parts, RFID technologies and industrial electronics. Eleven companies are currently operational, with cumulative investments exceeding ₹900 crore and employment generation for more than 2,700 people.
Among the companies operating in the cluster are Aisan Fiem Industries, E-Pack Durable, Sahasra Electronics and Electronics Sector Skill Council of India.
CM Sharma said the Rajasthan government’s recently launched Semiconductor Policy 2026 aims to transform the region near Delhi-NCR into a major manufacturing hub.
Yadav noted that Bhiwadi, traditionally known for automobile manufacturing, is now emerging as a centre for semiconductor and electronics industries as well.
The inauguration was held virtually following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel usage amid the prevailing global situation.
