Commercial flight operations commenced at Noida International Airport in Jewar on Monday, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure expansion.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated operations at the airport, which is expected to develop into a key aviation hub for the National Capital Region (NCR).

The first scheduled IndiGo flight, 6E-2278, arrived at the airport from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. After landing in Jewar, the flight continued to Bengaluru and was scheduled to arrive there at 11:05 a.m.

In a symbolic gesture marking the occasion, around 170 farmers from the Jewar region, including 20 women, who voluntarily contributed their ancestral land for the airport project, were set to travel on an inaugural flight to Lucknow. The delegation will meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Led by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, the farmers are expected to thank the chief minister for the state’s development initiatives and the establishment of the airport, which is projected to enhance connectivity and drive economic growth in the region, according to an official release.

Noida International Airport is positioned as a major international gateway for the NCR and is expected to strengthen India’s airport infrastructure while improving regional and global connectivity.

Developed as the second international airport serving the Delhi-NCR region, the facility will complement operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Among the country’s largest greenfield airport projects, the first phase of Noida International Airport has been developed at an investment of approximately Rs 11,200 crore under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the airport features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft and is equipped with modern navigation systems, including an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and advanced airfield lighting, enabling efficient all-weather and round-the-clock operations.
