Delhi L-G Reviews Civic Infrastructure, Structural Safety and Monsoon Preparedness with MCD

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired a high-level review meeting with officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to assess urban governance, civic infrastructure development and structural safety measures across the national capital.

The meeting focused on key civic issues, including desilting of stormwater drains ahead of the monsoon, repair of roads and pavements to curb dust pollution, intensified sanitation drives, and the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY). Officials also discussed the use of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the rejuvenation of public parks.

Following the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor said on X that a comprehensive action plan was being pursued to strengthen urban governance, improve civic infrastructure and enhance structural safety in Delhi.

He stressed the need for strict enforcement of building bylaws to prevent illegal structural expansions and directed the MCD to implement a time-bound strategy to tackle unauthorised constructions.

The review comes amid concerns over structural safety following two recent building collapses in the city that resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.

With the monsoon season approaching, special emphasis was placed on desilting stormwater drains to prevent waterlogging, a recurring issue that disrupts daily life and traffic movement across the capital.

The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed road and pavement repair works aimed at dust mitigation, along with measures to strengthen sanitation through intensified garbage clearance drives.

He further directed officials to expedite the implementation of the PM-UDAY scheme to benefit residents of unauthorised colonies and called for the finalisation of a participatory CSR framework for the redevelopment and maintenance of public parks.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to urban development, the Lieutenant Governor said the objective was to ensure a safe, planned, clean and dignified living environment for all residents of Delhi, in line with the vision of inclusive development.
