GIFT Nifty Hits Record High in Open Interest, Reflecting Rising Global Investor Participation

GIFT Nifty has recorded its highest-ever open interest, with the total contract value reaching USD 21.56 billion (around ₹2.04 lakh crore) and 4,46,150 contracts on June 25, 2026, reflecting growing participation by global investors in India’s offshore derivatives market.

According to GIFT IFSC, the latest figures surpass the previous record of USD 21.23 billion in open interest and 4,10,100 contracts registered on October 24, 2025.

The steady rise in open interest indicates increasing confidence among international investors in GIFT Nifty as a platform for trading India-linked equity derivatives.

Trading activity on the NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) has also witnessed significant growth since GIFT Nifty commenced full-scale operations on July 3, 2023. As of June 25, 2026, the platform has recorded a cumulative trading volume of more than 69.56 million contracts, with a cumulative turnover exceeding USD 3.21 trillion.

GIFT IFSC attributed the growth to sustained investor participation and increasing acceptance of the offshore derivatives platform. It thanked market participants for their continued support in making GIFT Nifty one of the leading products at the International Financial Services Centre.

NSE IX, established at GIFT City on June 5, 2017, is an international multi-asset exchange and currently accounts for over 99.6 per cent of the market share within the GIFT International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

The exchange has also secured a Part 30 exemption from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) under Regulation 30.10, along with class relief from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. These regulatory approvals enable eligible US investors to participate in derivative contracts listed on NSE IX, further strengthening GIFT City’s position as an international financial hub.
