Union Home Minister Amit Shah | JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy

HM Amit Shah Reviews Delhi Slum Rehabilitation Plan, Directs Fast-Track Implementation

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a review meeting on the rehabilitation of slums in New Delhi and directed authorities to expedite the implementation of the Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026, which was finalised during the meeting.

The Home Minister said the Delhi government should notify the policy at the earliest and directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to issue tenders for five JJ clusters within 45 days. He also asked officials to prepare project documents and tender forms for an additional 50 JJ clusters.

Shah said the Delhi government should issue tenders for at least five public-private partnership (PPP)-based rehabilitation projects every month to accelerate the redevelopment process.

He emphasised that rehabilitation colonies should include adequate community infrastructure, such as Anganwadi centres, educational facilities, health centres and playgrounds.

The Home Minister said the decisions taken at the meeting would benefit around four lakh families living in Delhi’s JJ clusters and added that January 1, 2025, would be the eligibility cut-off date for beneficiaries under the rehabilitation programme.

Shah said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains committed to the upliftment of Antyodaya and Garib Kalyan.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi’s Urban Development Minister, the Union Home Secretary, the Delhi Chief Secretary and other senior officials from the Centre and the Delhi government.
