The Red Shield Division under the Spear Corps organised a lecture on the culture and traditions of Tripura at Agartala Military Station on Tuesday as part of efforts to enhance cultural awareness among military personnel serving in the state.
The lecture was delivered by Bindu Ranjan Chakma, an academician and expert on Tripura’s history and cultural heritage from Maharaja Bir Bikram University, Agartala.
The event saw participation from officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), troops and their family members, providing them an opportunity to gain deeper insights into the state’s rich cultural legacy.
During the session, Chakma presented an overview of Tripura’s geographical setting, historical evolution, ethnic composition and cultural diversity. He also discussed the customs, traditions and lifestyles of the state’s indigenous tribes and communities, highlighting their contribution to Tripura’s distinct identity.
The speaker underscored the significance of traditional attire, festivals, rituals, folk dances, music, handicrafts and indigenous knowledge systems that have been preserved across generations. He stressed the need to safeguard these cultural traditions while adapting to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Participants gained insights into Tripura’s social fabric and the role of cultural heritage in promoting social cohesion and community resilience. The interactive session generated keen interest, with attendees engaging in discussions on various aspects of the state’s history, traditions and contemporary cultural landscape.
According to organisers, the lecture provided a platform for meaningful exchange of ideas and contributed to strengthening cultural awareness among Army personnel.
The event reflected the Indian Army’s continued efforts to engage with academic institutions and subject matter experts to broaden the knowledge of its personnel and promote the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
