Indian Coast Guard marks Yoga Day with nationwide ‘Yoga Sangam 2026’ initiative

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga with widespread participation across the country through its flagship initiative, “Yoga Sangam 2026,” highlighting transformative role of yoga in fostering holistic health, resilience, and well-being across all age groups.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the celebrations highlighted the role of yoga in promoting holistic health, resilience, and overall well-being across all age groups.

As part of the nationwide observance, coordinated yoga sessions were organised on all Coast Guard ships and at various shore establishments across the country. Thousands of Coast Guard personnel and their family members participated in the sessions, which were led by trained yoga instructors and included a blend of asanas (yogic postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation practices.

Special emphasis was placed on yoga techniques that can be easily integrated into daily routines to improve physical fitness, mental clarity, emotional balance, stress management, and operational resilience – qualities considered essential for personnel serving in demanding and high-pressure environments.

The central event was held at the Indian Coast Guard Complex in Noida in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga. The programme was attended by ICG Director General Paramesh Sivamani, along with more than 1,000 Coast Guard personnel and their family members.

Addressing the gathering, DG Paramesh Sivamani underlined the enduring relevance of yoga as an effective tool for maintaining physical vitality, mental well-being, and professional efficiency, particularly for personnel engaged in operational duties.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said ‘Yoga Sangam 2026’ stands as a testament to the ICG’s unwavering commitment to nurturing the health, wellness, and quality of life of its personnel and their families deployed in safeguarding the Indian coastlines.
