Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini arrived at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, on June 26 as part of the landmark transoceanic expedition ‘Lokayan 26’, strengthening maritime ties between India and the United States.
The passage from Norfolk included a transit through the historic Chesapeake & Delaware (C&D) Canal beneath major mid-Atlantic bridges. During its stay in Baltimore, INS Sudarshini will participate in maritime engagement and community outreach activities ahead of the Sail250 Maryland celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Earlier, the vessel took part in the Sail250 Virginia celebrations in Norfolk from June 19 to 23, joining tall ships from around the world in the Parade of Sail and the City Crew Parade.
Having sailed more than 13,000 nautical miles in five months from Kochi to Norfolk, the expedition showcases India’s rich maritime heritage and reflects the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ by fostering friendship, cooperation and mutual trust across the oceans.
