Light rain brings relief to Delhi-NCR; IMD predicts thunderstorms, gusty winds

Light rain showers across several parts of Delhi-NCR on Monday morning brought relief from the humid weather conditions that had prevailed over the past few days, offering residents a pleasant start to the week.

Rainfall was reported from multiple areas of the national capital region, including localities around the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The showers helped lower temperatures and provided temporary respite from the summer heat.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), further rainfall activity is likely during the day. The weather department has forecast very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of Delhi-NCR.

The IMD said isolated areas may experience thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph during the afternoon and evening hours. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue later in the day.

The maximum temperature in the national capital is likely to remain around 39 degrees Celsius on Monday, while the minimum temperature is expected to be close to 26 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are forecast to hover around 65 per cent.

Weather observations from Sunday showed maximum temperatures ranging between 38.4 degrees Celsius and 39.1 degrees Celsius across various monitoring stations in Delhi. The Ridge station recorded the highest temperature at 39.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Lodi Road at 38.7 degrees Celsius and Palam at 38.6 degrees Celsius. Ayanagar recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 38.4 degrees Celsius.

The city recorded an overall maximum temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which was 1.4 degrees below the seasonal average, according to the IMD.

The weather department has indicated that conditions are likely to remain favourable over the coming days. A partly cloudy sky is expected on June 16, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations.

While temperatures may rise slightly to around 40 degrees Celsius, intermittent cloud cover and rain activity are expected to keep heat levels under check.
