Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday paid tribute to Maharana Pratap, describing the legendary Mewar ruler’s life as an unparalleled example of patriotism, sacrifice, courage, and the relentless struggle for freedom that continues to inspire generations of Indians.
Addressing a commemorative event in Udaipur dedicated to Maharana Pratap’s life and legacy, LS Speaker Birla said the historic land of Mewar has given the world a timeless message of valour, self-respect, and unwavering commitment to national honour.
“Maharana Pratap’s life remains an unparalleled template of sacrifice and relentless struggle for freedom,” the Lok Sabha Speaker said, emphasizing that his ideals continue to serve as a guiding force for present and future generations.
Symbol of Courage and Self-Respect
LS Speaker Birla highlighted Maharana Pratap’s unwavering dedication to the sovereignty of Mewar and the welfare of his people, noting that the warrior king consciously chose a life of hardship over royal comforts in order to defend the independence and dignity of his kingdom.
He said Maharana Pratap devoted his entire life to protecting the honour of his people and preserving the sovereignty of Mewar, setting an enduring example of leadership and sacrifice.
LS Speaker Birla said the struggle waged by Mewar under Maharana Pratap occupies a unique place in world history. Despite facing severe resource constraints, Maharana Pratap, with the support of the Bhil community and ordinary citizens, demonstrated extraordinary courage and determination in defending the region’s identity and self-respect.
Mewar’s Heroes Remain Sources of Inspiration
The Lok Sabha Speaker noted that Mewar’s rich historical legacy continues to inspire the nation through the lives and contributions of iconic figures such as Maharana Pratap, Maharani Padmini, Maharana Kumbha, and Rana Punja.
These personalities, he said, represent enduring symbols of courage, patriotism, and commitment to public service.
LS Speaker Birla also referred to the historic Battle of Haldighati, describing it as far more than a chapter in history.
“The Battle of Haldighati has transcended the pages of history books to become a living, breathing symbol of patriotism and resistance against oppression,” he said.
Call to Youth for Building Viksit Bharat
Drawing a connection between India’s historical legacy and its future aspirations, LS Speaker Birla urged young people to draw inspiration from Maharana Pratap’s dedication, discipline, and perseverance in the nation’s journey towards becoming a developed country.
He called upon the youth to channel the values embodied by Maharana Pratap towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, or Developed India.
“As India moves towards the goal of Viksit Bharat, dedication, discipline, hard work, and commitment to national interest remain essential,” he said.
The Speaker emphasized that the younger generation has a critical role to play in shaping India’s future and carrying forward the ideals of service and self-respect that leaders like Maharana Pratap exemplified.

LS Speaker Birla also stressed the importance of preserving India’s cultural heritage while embracing modern development.
He said a truly developed India would be characterized by a harmonious blend of its rich civilizational legacy and cutting-edge modernity.
