MoSPI partners with GRAAM to launch fellowship initiative for policy research and governance support

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with the Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM) to engage two fellows under the Embark India Development Fellowship proposal, aimed at strengthening policy research, governance innovation, and capacity-building initiatives within the Ministry.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony attended by senior officials from both organisations. P. R. Meshram, Director General (Data Governance), MoSPI, was present at the event, while the SoI was formally signed by Dr. Basavaraju R. Shreshta, Executive Director of GRAAM, and Prasoon Verma, Director of the Training Unit in MoSPI’s Capacity Development Division.

The collaboration is designed to create a practical platform for highly motivated and research-oriented professionals to work closely with the Ministry on key developmental and governance-related initiatives.

Under the fellowship programme, the selected fellows will contribute to ongoing and new projects within MoSPI, undertake research-driven assignments, and support the development of innovative solutions to address critical challenges in areas such as public policy, capacity building, data governance, and programme implementation.

The Ministry said the initiative seeks to combine academic and field-based research expertise with policy execution, enabling fellows to gain hands-on experience in government functioning while contributing fresh perspectives and evidence-based recommendations to the Ministry’s work.

The partnership is expected to strengthen institutional capacity by bringing in talented professionals who can support policy innovation and governance reforms through rigorous research and analytical inputs.

MoSPI noted that the fellowship programme will not only benefit the Ministry by leveraging the skills and expertise of young researchers but will also provide participants with valuable exposure to public administration, policy formulation, and governance processes at the national level.
