The Embassy of India in Nepal, in coordination with the Lumbini Development Trust and the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, organised a Yoga Day event in Lumbini on Saturday, ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga.
The event witnessed participation from senior officials and hundreds of yoga enthusiasts.
Speaking to ANI, Narayan Singh, First Secretary (Administration and D&PR Wing) at the Indian Embassy in Nepal, said hosting the event in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, adds significance to the occasion.
“Lumbini is the birthplace of Buddha, such an important place, and holding International Day of Yoga gives visibility to both the event and this place, which is of great significance to the world,” he said.
This year’s International Day of Yoga is being observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighting the role of yoga in promoting healthy and active lifestyles across age groups.
Indian missions across the world have been organising outreach programmes involving the Indian diaspora and local communities to spread awareness about yoga and its benefits ahead of the International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21.
The International Day of Yoga has been observed annually on June 21 since 2015, following the adoption of a United Nations resolution proposed by India in 2014.
