The National Cadet Corps (NCC) celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with enthusiastic participation from more than 8.30 lakh cadets, Associate NCC Officers, Permanent Instructors, and staff members across the country, reaffirming its commitment to promoting fitness, discipline, and holistic development among India’s youth.
As part of the nationwide observance, synchronized yoga sessions were conducted at more than 5,000 locations, bringing together NCC personnel in a collective display of commitment to physical and mental well-being. The celebrations were marked by patriotic fervour and widespread participation, reflecting the growing acceptance of yoga as a tool for healthy living.
Yoga sessions were organised at several iconic and historic locations across the country, including the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Golconda Fort in Hyderabad, Bodh Gaya in Bihar, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, Namo Ghat in Varanasi, Millennium Park in Kolkata, Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, Marina Beach in Chennai, and the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.
The large-scale participation highlighted the NCC’s efforts to encourage young people to adopt healthy lifestyles while fostering qualities such as self-discipline, resilience, and teamwork. The organisation said the initiative aligns with the broader objective of nurturing physically fit, mentally strong, and socially responsible citizens.
Observed annually on June 21, the International Day of Yoga promotes the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. This year’s celebrations, held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasised the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life to support long-term health and well-being.
The NCC, one of the country’s largest uniformed youth organisations, continues to play a key role in nation-building by instilling values of discipline, leadership, fitness, and collective responsibility among young citizens. Through initiatives such as International Yoga Day, the organisation seeks to strengthen awareness about wellness and encourage a culture of healthy living among the youth.
