Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) as a historic milestone in bilateral relations, as both countries announced that the agreement, along with the Agreement on Social Security Contributions, also known as the Double Contribution Convention (DCC), will come into force on July 15, 2026.
In a post on X, PM Modi said the pact will significantly boost trade and investment between the two nations and open up new opportunities for Indian farmers, workers, MSMEs, startups and innovators.
He added that the agreement will contribute meaningfully to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and reflects strong momentum in India-UK economic ties.
The announcement came after discussions between Prime Minister Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, where both leaders expressed satisfaction over the deepening bilateral cooperation.
