Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, saying the past 12 years of governance had brought significant changes to the lives of ordinary citizens and placed the country on the path towards becoming a developed nation.
Speaking to IANS, Rijiju described the occasion as a historic milestone and said it reflected both political continuity and broader national progress.
“Today is a historic day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 4,399 days as the elected Prime Minister. It is a matter of great fortune that he has achieved the longest tenure. More importantly, during his tenure, India has taken decisive steps towards the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’,” Rijiju said.
He noted that the goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 had gained prominence after Modi assumed office in 2014.
The Union Minister said one of the defining aspects of the Modi government’s tenure had been its impact on the lives of ordinary citizens, including the poor and middle class.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the lives of people, including ordinary citizens, the poor and the common man. Their lives have improved significantly. Over the past 12 years, there has been a visible transformation in the daily lives of many people,” he said.
Rijiju also said Modi’s leadership had ushered in a distinct phase focused on development and long-term national objectives.
“It is not appropriate to compare Prime Minister Narendra Modi with anyone else. He began working towards the vision of Viksit Bharat immediately after assuming office in 2014,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi crossed the milestone of 4,399 days in office on Wednesday, surpassing the record held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, to become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the country’s history.
Modi first assumed office in May 2014 and subsequently secured consecutive mandates in 2019 and 2024, becoming the first Prime Minister after Nehru to win three successive general elections.
