Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday said that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 can only be achieved through public participation, innovation, entrepreneurship and collective resolve, stressing that economic growth and nation-building must advance together to ensure inclusive development.
Addressing the National Conclave of the Maheshwari community on the theme ‘Maheshwaris & the Making of Viksit Bharat 2047’ in New Delhi, Birla said India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation must be guided by social responsibility, active citizen engagement and equitable growth. He lauded the Maheshwari community for its longstanding contributions to nation-building through ethical business practices, philanthropy and public service.
Highlighting the community’s role in driving economic progress across the country, Birla said Maheshwaris have consistently generated employment, strengthened local economies and upheld values of honesty, integrity and social harmony. He noted that the community has established institutions dedicated to education, healthcare and social welfare, making significant contributions to society across generations.
The Speaker said wealth creation alone cannot define success, stressing that entrepreneurship must also create social value and bring positive change. He cited the achievements of entrepreneur Anand Rathi and Justice J.K. Maheshwari as examples of the community’s tradition of excellence and service.
Emphasising the role of youth in shaping India’s future, Birla described educated, skilled and technology-driven young people as the country’s greatest strength in achieving the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. He urged them to embrace innovation, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, while encouraging them to become job creators rather than job seekers.
Birla also highlighted India’s progress over the past decade, attributing it to the nation’s resilience, confidence and collective determination. Stressing the importance of balancing rights with duties, the LS Speaker said responsible citizenship, respect for institutions and active participation in public life are essential for sustaining national development. He added that legislative reforms undertaken through Parliament have enhanced transparency and improved the ease of doing business.
Further, Birla expressed confidence that the principles of unity, service, enterprise and ‘Nation First’ would help India realise the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He called upon the Maheshwari community, particularly its youth, to continue contributing to national development through innovation, ethical leadership and social commitment.
