Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said a strong economy, technological capability and national security together form the foundation of a developed nation, asserting that the Vibrant Gujarat initiative has evolved into a nationwide movement contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Addressing the valedictory session of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Vadodara, Singh said the platform, launched in 2003 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, has transformed over the past two decades into a catalyst for investment, innovation and economic growth.
He said the conference showcased the strengths of multiple sectors, including industry, MSMEs, tribal products, heavy industries and defence manufacturing, reflecting Gujarat’s growing role in India’s economic development.
Highlighting the link between economic development and national security, the Defence Minister said the growth of the defence sector extends beyond weapons manufacturing and contributes to the expansion of industries, employment generation and technological innovation. He added that initiatives such as defence corridors are creating new opportunities for industrial development and strengthening the country’s manufacturing ecosystem.
Singh said that great nations are built on three interconnected pillars—economic strength, technological advancement and national security. According to him, economic prosperity and technological progress reinforce national security, while a secure environment promotes industrial growth and innovation.
Referring to the changing global geopolitical landscape, the Defence Minister said India’s future role on the world stage would depend on its self-reliance, technological capabilities and collective resolve. He emphasised the need to strengthen domestic industries and build technological capacity to meet emerging global challenges.
Praising Gujarat’s contribution to the country’s development, Singh said the state has played a significant role in shaping India’s political, economic and social landscape. He noted that the Vibrant Gujarat initiative has helped position the state as one of the country’s leading engines of economic growth and investment.
