Tata Motors joins Centre’s vehicle replacement scheme for Delhi-NCR, offers 8% discount on new trucks and buses

Tata Motors has joined the Government of India’s vehicle replacement initiative aimed at phasing out old and polluting commercial vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region, becoming the latest automobile manufacturer to partner with the Centre under the scheme.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday between the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Tata Motors for the implementation of the programme.

Under the agreement, Tata Motors will offer an 8 per cent discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible trucks and buses purchased under the scheme. For electric vehicles, the discount will be capped at the level applicable to an equivalent Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle based on Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) category.

The initiative is designed to accelerate the replacement of ageing commercial vehicles with cleaner and more efficient alternatives, contributing to improved air quality in the National Capital Region.

Additional Incentives for Vehicle Owners

Apart from the discount offered by participating manufacturers, the Centre will provide a 5 per cent interest subvention on eligible vehicle purchases and fixed monthly fuel vouchers for a period of five years.

Participating state governments will further support the scheme by offering up to 100 per cent concession on motor vehicle tax for ten years and a complete waiver of registration fees for eligible beneficiaries.

MoRTH said the combined incentives are intended to reduce the financial burden on transport operators and encourage faster adoption of newer, cleaner vehicles.

Growing Industry Participation

Earlier this week, Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility had also signed similar agreements with the government to participate in the scheme.

With the addition of Tata Motors, the programme now covers manufacturers accounting for nearly 50 per cent of India’s truck and bus market, significantly expanding the availability of eligible vehicles for replacement.
