Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India arrived in Leeds for their second Group Stage clash against the Netherlands, scheduled to be played at Headingley on Wednesday. The Women in Blue are coming off an emphatic victory in their tournament opener, having thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan by 64 runs.
The team travelled by bus from Birmingham to Leeds, taking in scenic views and enjoying coffee along the way.
The BCCI shared a video of the journey on X, featuring Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Varma, among others, sharing their thoughts about their teammates.
Asked to name two of Arundhati Reddy’s best qualities, Smriti said, “She has that fire in her. She also keeps motivating me to do the right things in terms of preparation and performing well on the ground.”
Arundhati, speaking about the Indian vice-captain, said, “One good thing about her is that every place I eat at when I come abroad is chosen by her, and more often than not, the food turns out to be great. So, if anybody wants to know where to go and what to eat, get in touch with her.”
Jemimah was asked what she likes most about Shreyanka, to which she replied, “The thing I love about Shrey is that she’s really caring. She looks after the people around her.”
The all-rounder also had some words of appreciation for Jemimah, saying, “I call her Jemi. There are so many good things about her, but one thing I really love is how she surprises people out of nowhere. I’ll be sitting somewhere and she’ll suddenly turn up with gifts or something because she knows I love gifts.”
In the video, Shafali revealed that pacer Renuka Singh Thakur loves soft toys, while Deepti Sharma said wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh has extensive knowledge about almost every country or city the team travels to.
