Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting with Secretaries of key Ministries to review the progress of rural development, agriculture, social welfare and allied sectors in advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, focused on strengthening governance, improving inter-ministerial coordination and accelerating the implementation of reforms aimed at enhancing citizens’ welfare.
Emphasising that the welfare of citizens must remain at the heart of all reforms, the Prime Minister said governance initiatives should be designed around people’s needs and deliver meaningful transformation. He noted that reforms should not only improve the functioning of the government but also accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
Highlighting the rapidly evolving governance landscape, the Prime Minister stressed the need to modernise governance processes in line with changing times. He called for a comprehensive mapping of emerging requirements across Ministries and Departments to ensure that governance systems remain responsive to future challenges.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of adopting a whole-of-government approach to achieve national development goals. Calling for greater convergence among Ministries, he said the vision of Viksit Bharat should become a Jan Andolan, with the country’s youth forming the foundation of this national mission.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse among young people, the Prime Minister stressed the need for an institutional mechanism that promotes coordination across departments and integrates youth-centric initiatives to tackle the challenge more effectively.
On sports, the Prime Minister advocated an integrated development strategy to position India as a global sporting destination. He said the country should aspire to host major international sporting events while promoting sports tourism, technological innovation and startup-led solutions in the sector.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the transformative potential of the PM-KUSUM Scheme in strengthening the agriculture sector through wider adoption by farmers. He further emphasised the need for a global mapping of skill requirements to align India’s workforce with emerging international opportunities and future employment demands.
During the meeting, Secretaries shared their experiences and perspectives on ongoing initiatives and challenges across their respective sectors. The Prime Minister offered suggestions on the future course of action, with discussions focusing on effective implementation, greater convergence and faster progress towards the goals of Viksit Bharat.
