CWG 2026: Gulveer eyes 10,000m medal, five Indian boxers fight for podium spots

India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 enters another crucial day on Tuesday, July 28, with Gulveer Singh headlining the athletics action as he bids for a maiden CWG medal in the men’s 10,000m final.

The Asian champion and national record holder will compete in a direct final, aiming to add a Commonwealth Games medal to his growing list of achievements. The athletics schedule also features Rajesh Ramesh and Vishal TK in the men’s 400m heats, while Pooja Singh will compete in the women’s high jump final.

The boxing ring will be a key focus for India as five of its fighters enter quarter-final action, with medals within reach. Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas, Parveen Hooda, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam and Kapil Pokhariya will look to advance to the semi-finals, where a spot on the podium is guaranteed.

Weightlifting, which has been one of India’s strongest medal-producing disciplines at Glasgow 2026, will see Nirupama Devi Seram compete in the women’s 63kg final and Birmingham 2022 bronze medallist Harjinder Kaur feature in the women’s 69kg event.

Mirabai Chanu’s historic third successive Commonwealth Games gold has been the highlight of India’s weightlifting campaign so far, with Rishikanta Singh, Raja Muthupandi, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Valluri Ajaya Babu and Bindyarani Devi also adding medals to the tally.

In swimming, Olympian Sajan Prakash will compete in the men’s 50m butterfly heats, while Srihari Nataraj will feature in the men’s 100m backstroke heats. Both swimmers will also compete in the semi-finals if they qualify.

India’s para swimming contingent will be in medal contention as Ravi Veera Venkata Bhavani Karthik Budigna and Imam Ali compete in the men’s S13 50m freestyle final.

India’s bowls campaign continues with Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar in the men’s pairs sectional play, while Nayanmoni Saikia competes in the women’s singles sectional event.
