Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are likely to witness another spell of monsoon rain on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the region.
The weather is expected to provide relief from the prevailing heat, although high humidity, waterlogging and traffic congestion may continue to affect several parts of the capital and adjoining areas.
According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to experience intermittent light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms through the day. Overcast skies are expected to prevail, with gusty winds accompanying thunderstorm activity in some areas. The maximum temperature is forecast to hover between 33°C and 34°C, while the minimum is expected to remain around 27°C.
Neighbouring NCR cities, including Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with isolated pockets witnessing intense showers, lightning and strong winds.
Authorities have advised commuters to plan their travel carefully, particularly during peak hours, as waterlogging in low-lying areas could lead to traffic disruptions and delays.
The IMD has also forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country on July 30. States including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
A yellow alert has been issued for several regions, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and wind speeds of 40-60 kmph. The weather department has urged residents to remain alert and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
According to the IMD, the prevailing active monsoon conditions, supported by a continuous inflow of moisture from the Bay of Bengal, are expected to sustain widespread rainfall over northern and eastern India until at least August 1.
In Uttar Pradesh, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over several eastern, central and western districts. Cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Noida are expected to receive widespread showers, with isolated areas likely to record very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
The IMD said it is closely monitoring the evolving weather system and has advised farmers, travellers and two-wheeler riders to exercise caution during periods of heavy rain, lightning and strong winds to minimise weather-related risks.
