The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies and multiple spells of rain across Delhi-NCR on Wednesday as favourable monsoon conditions continue to influence weather over northwest India.
According to the IMD, the national capital is likely to receive very light to light rainfall at most places, with isolated areas expected to witness moderate showers from early morning until noon. Another spell of light rain is likely during the evening and night.
The prevailing weather is being driven by the monsoon trough, an upper-air cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh, and an active western disturbance, the weather department said.
The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of 31-33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22-24 degrees Celsius for the day. Southeasterly winds with speeds of 10-15 kmph are expected to prevail.
According to the IMD’s seven-day outlook, generally cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall are likely to continue over Delhi through the first week of August.
On July 30, the city is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, followed by another spell of very light to light rain during the night. From July 31 to August 2, isolated spells of very light to light rain are likely, while August 3 may see a few spells of light rain at many places, particularly between the early morning and noon hours.
Meanwhile, heavy monsoon showers on Tuesday disrupted normal life across the national capital, triggering widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, fallen trees, power outages and flooding in several areas.
According to the IMD, Tuesday was the rainiest day of the year so far in Delhi and the coldest day recorded in July in the past three years.
Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, recorded 57.6 mm of rainfall between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Several localities received higher rainfall, with Pusa recording the highest at 88.5 mm during the same period.
