Delhi-NCR under yellow alert as IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms till Wednesday

Delhi woke up to rain on Tuesday morning as showers lashed several parts of the national capital, bringing relief from the humid weather.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of very light to light rain across most parts of the city and moderate rainfall at a few places from morning until noon. Another spell of rain is expected towards the evening or night.

The weather department has also predicted moderate rainfall on Wednesday, with light to moderate showers likely at several places across the national capital.

According to the IMD’s daily weather bulletin issued on Monday, Delhi is expected to experience light rain and thunderstorms over the next few days, accompanied by generally cloudy skies and moderate rainfall at isolated locations.

On Monday, Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28.6 degrees Celsius. The IMD said maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next six days.

Meanwhile, the IMD said a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal was located near the West Bengal coast and was expected to move west-northwestwards, crossing the West Bengal-North Odisha coasts near Digha and west of Haldia early on Tuesday.

The weather system, located close to Digha, is expected to bring rainfall to several parts of eastern India.

The IMD has advised commuters to check traffic conditions before leaving for their destinations and avoid areas prone to waterlogging. (ANI)
