Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), a Central University under the Ministry of Railways, held its fourth convocation, awarding degrees to 121 students across its B.Tech. and MBA programmes while conferring its first-ever honorary Ph.D. on renowned engineer E. Sreedharan for his contributions to India’s transportation and infrastructure sector.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu attended the convocation as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included former Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E. Sreedharan, Vadodara MP Dr. Hemang Joshi, Rajmata of Baroda Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad, Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and Tata Advanced Systems CEO and MD Sukaran Singh.
The university also awarded its first MBA degree in Metro Rail Management during the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Rammohan Naidu highlighted the importance of “Movement, Momentum and Mission” in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, describing them as the pillars of direction, speed and purpose.
“Movement, Momentum and Mission are essential for Viksit Bharat,” the Union Minister said.
He highlighted India’s progress in transportation infrastructure, particularly in aviation and the PM Gati Shakti initiative, and underscored the growing potential of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) sector in creating employment opportunities for young professionals.
The minister also praised the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering curriculum developed by GSV within four months of its partnership with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), describing the university’s industry-driven approach as a model for higher education institutions.
Receiving the university’s first honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa), E. Sreedharan urged students to embrace lifelong learning and uphold values such as punctuality, integrity, professional competence and the right attitude.
“Success comes through continuous learning, integrity, punctuality and professional competency. Give back to society and the nation by building strong character and good health,” he said.
Vadodara MP Dr. Hemang Joshi noted that the convocation coincided with the launch of India’s first indigenously developed hydrogen-powered train, calling it a significant milestone for the country’s transport sector. He also lauded the university’s 100 per cent placement record and encouraged graduates to view their degrees as the beginning of a larger journey.
Rajmata Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad urged students to remain rooted in values while pursuing sustainable development, while Tata Advanced Systems CEO and MD Sukaran Singh emphasised the importance of robust testing ecosystems, supportive regulations and innovation in advancing India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing capabilities.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj Choudhary presented the university’s progress report during the ceremony.
Gold medals for academic excellence were awarded to Vivek Yadav, Sandeep Patel, Abhinandan Gupta, Rishav Tripathi and Suresh Sengundarmudliyar. The Outstanding Project Award 2026 was presented to Durgesh Kumar and Sandeep Patel, while Vivek Kumar received the Best Graduating Student Award.
Established through an Act of Parliament in December 2022, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across transportation and logistics disciplines, including rail, aviation, maritime, logistics and supply chain management, metro rail, ports and highways. The university also serves as the nodal institution for capacity building under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and has trained more than 2.4 lakh officers across government departments and services.
