Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said the government was ready to hold a detailed discussion in Parliament on the NEET-UG paper leak and urged Opposition parties to help finalise the agenda instead of allowing disruptions to continue.
Speaking to reporters, Rijiju said, “We have, from Day 1 have informed the opposition leaders, Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman government is ready to discuss the NEET paper leak and all other linked issues. We are ready for it, but under which rule this discussion will take place has to be decided.”
He added, “A positive discussion should take place; there is a system for it. What steps the government has taken on this issue should also be brought to the public.”
Rijiju said the debate should not be held merely as a formality, stressing that the matter concerns the country’s youth and deserved a substantive discussion.
“If we don’t discuss it, how will the public know what action the government has taken? We have again formally stated that there should be no delay on this issue,” he said.
Earlier in the Lok Sabha, Rijiju reiterated that the government had been offering to discuss the issue for the past three days.
“The government is ready to discuss the NEET paper leak. The duration can be decided after consultations with floor leaders of all parties,” he said.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also said the government was prepared for a discussion and invited Opposition parties to hold consultations to finalise the agenda.
The Lok Sabha was later adjourned till 2 pm amid protests by Opposition members.
