India will host the third BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on July 11 and 12 under its BRICS Chairship 2026, bringing together transport ministers and senior officials from member countries to discuss sustainable infrastructure, mobility and transport cooperation.
The meeting will be held under India’s BRICS Chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)”, focusing on strengthening collaboration in the transport sector through innovation, connectivity and sustainable development.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will chair the Transport Ministers’ Meeting on July 11, with ministers from other BRICS member countries expected to participate.
The meeting follows the first two editions of the BRICS Transport Working Group hosted by Russia and Brazil. Established as the bloc’s primary platform for transport policy dialogue, the working group aims to promote resilient, efficient and sustainable transport systems across member nations.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the discussions align with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, which seeks to build a climate-conscious, disaster-resilient and technology-driven transport ecosystem. The vision includes promoting electric mobility, circular economy solutions and multimodal transport to reduce logistics costs and accelerate green mobility.
Over the two-day meeting, senior officials will review progress made since the Russian and Brazilian chairships, exchange best practices and discuss future collaboration in areas such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), urban mobility, multimodal transport, resilient logistics supply chains, decarbonisation and the adoption of artificial intelligence-based technologies.
The expanded BRICS grouping now comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Collectively, the bloc represents nearly half of the world’s population and contributes around 40 per cent of global GDP.
The ministry said stronger transport cooperation among BRICS countries is expected to facilitate trade, improve regional and intercontinental connectivity, enhance logistics efficiency and build more resilient global supply chains.
The Nagpur meeting is expected to deepen transport cooperation among BRICS nations while carrying forward the momentum generated during the previous meetings hosted by Russia and Brazil.
