India’s industrial production registered a 7.3 per cent year-on-year growth in June 2026, up from the 5.1 per cent growth recorded in May, according to the Quick Estimates of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The growth was driven by a 7.8 per cent expansion in manufacturing and 10.6 per cent growth in electricity and gas supply.
The Quick Estimate of the IIP stood at 123.1 in June 2026, compared with 114.7 in the corresponding month last year. Sector-wise, Mining and Quarrying grew 1.0 per cent, Manufacturing expanded 7.8 per cent, Electricity and Gas Supply rose 10.6 per cent, while Water Supply, Sewerage and Waste Management recorded 6.1 per cent growth.
Within manufacturing, 19 of the 23 industry groups recorded positive growth over June 2025. The three biggest contributors were Manufacture of electrical equipment, which grew 34.0 per cent, Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers at 17.5 per cent, and Manufacture of food products at 10.8 per cent.
The use-based classification also reflected broad-based industrial expansion. Capital Goods registered the highest growth at 14.2 per cent, followed by Intermediate Goods at 9.3 per cent, Consumer Durables at 7.7 per cent, Infrastructure and Construction Goods at 7.5 per cent, Primary Goods at 4.9 per cent, and Consumer Non-durables at 4.9 per cent over June 2025. Intermediate Goods, Primary Goods and Capital Goods were the top contributors to overall IIP growth during the month.
For the April-June period of 2026-27, the overall IIP recorded 5.8 per cent growth over the corresponding period of the previous year. During the quarter, manufacturing grew 6.3 per cent, electricity and gas supply 8.6 per cent, water supply, sewerage and waste management 6.0 per cent, while mining and quarrying contracted 1.4 per cent.
MoSPI said the Quick Estimates for June 2026 were compiled at a weighted response rate of 86.7 per cent, while the final revised estimates for May 2026 were based on a 93.1 per cent response rate. The ministry will release the IIP data for July 2026 on August 28, 2026.
