Mangal Pandey’s courageous life continues to fill every Indian with pride: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid rich tributes to the great revolutionary Mangal Pandey on his birth anniversary.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Heartfelt salutations to the great revolutionary Mangal Pandey Ji on his birth anniversary. For the protection of the pride and honour of the motherland, he sacrificed everything he had. His courageous life continues to fill every Indian with pride even today. His saga of valour, imbued with patriotism, will continue to inspire every generation of the nation.”

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid tribute, describing Mangal Pandey as the immortal hero of the First War of Independence in 1857 and a symbol of indomitable courage and patriotism.

In a post on X, Birla said, “On the birth anniversary of the immortal hero of the First War of Independence of 1857 and a symbol of indomitable courage and patriotism, Veer Mangal Pandey Ji, I offer my heartfelt tributes. On March 29, 1857, his courage and love for the nation at the Barrackpore cantonment became a defining moment in Indian history, challenging the foundations of colonial rule and giving a new direction to the freedom movement.”

“His sacrifice inspired countless revolutionaries for decades, and his life continues to instil the spirit of patriotism in millions of Indians,” he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Mangal Pandey ignited the spirit of resistance against British rule by awakening the nation’s consciousness for the protection of its culture, self-respect and national interests.

In a post on X, HM Shah said, “Revolutionary hero Mangal Pandey Ji sounded the bugle of the 1857 Revolution, awakening public consciousness for the struggle to protect our culture, self-respect, and national interest. To free Mother India from British oppression and injustice, he made the ultimate sacrifice. The spark of revolution ignited by his martyrdom later transformed into the mighty flame of India’s independence. On the birth anniversary of this unparalleled martyr and immortal revolutionary, I offer my humble tributes.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered Mangal Pandey as a hero of the 1857 War of Independence and an enduring symbol of unparalleled courage and patriotism.

In a post on X, Singh said, “On the birth anniversary of Mangal Pandey Ji, the hero of the 1857 War of Independence and an immortal symbol of unparalleled courage and patriotism, I offer my humble tributes. His fearless call for revolution against foreign rule ignited the flame of patriotism across India and inspired countless countrymen to dedicate themselves to the freedom of the motherland. His sacrifice, valour, and unwavering devotion to the nation will forever inspire us to move forward on the path of national service and nation-building.”

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda also paid homage to the freedom fighter, saying Mangal Pandey’s courage and sacrifice laid the foundation for India’s freedom struggle.

In a post on X, Nadda said, “I offer my humble salutations on the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter Mangal Pandey Ji, who sounded the bugle of revolution against British rule in 1857. The indomitable courage and struggle of this great son of Mother India laid the foundation of our freedom movement and ignited the flame of independence across the nation. His unparalleled bravery and supreme sacrifice for the motherland will forever remain a source of inspiration for us all.”
