The Monsoon Session of Parliament begins on Monday with a packed legislative agenda in both Houses. The Lok Sabha is set to introduce the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, while the Rajya Sabha is scheduled to take up a Bill proposing amendments to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

In the Lok Sabha, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will introduce the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to replace the ordinance issued earlier this year to increase the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 33 to 37 by amending the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956.

The Lower House will also consider a motion related to the Joint Committee on Offices of Profit. Moved by BJP MPs Eatala Rajender and Ajay Bhatt, the motion recommends that the Rajya Sabha elect two members to the committee to fill vacancies created by the retirement of N.R. Elango and Deepak Prakash.

Proceedings in the Lok Sabha will begin with obituary references to former Members of Parliament Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, Omwati Devi, Sudhangshu Seal, Major General Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri (Retd.), K.P. Dhanapalan, Pyare Lal Sankhwar, and Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Father Amir of Qatar.

Question Hour will follow, after which ministers will lay papers on the Table of the House. Union Minister Suresh Gopi will also make a statement on the implementation of recommendations made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas regarding litigation involving oil public sector undertakings.

The House is also scheduled to take up matters under Rule 377.
