The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded the digital services available on the RajmargYatra mobile application by introducing a digital Local Pass facility and the MargMitra Help Centre, aimed at making National Highway travel more convenient and enhancing citizen-centric digital services.
The new initiatives have been launched in line with the Government of India’s Digital India vision and its focus on improving the ease of living through technology-driven public services.
The newly introduced Local Pass feature enables eligible commuters to purchase monthly toll passes digitally through the RajmargYatra mobile application without the need to visit a toll plaza. The facility has been rolled out initially at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi and will be gradually extended to other toll plazas across the country in the coming months.
Under the new system, residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of an eligible toll plaza can purchase a Local Pass through the app, allowing them unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza for one month.
Earlier, commuters were required to visit toll plazas in person and submit supporting documents to establish their eligibility. The entire process has now been digitised and can be completed within minutes through the mobile application.
The digital Local Pass system uses consent-based integration with government platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to automatically retrieve verified information related to a commuter’s address, vehicle registration and linked FASTag. Eligibility is further verified using GIS-based validation, eliminating manual documentation while improving transparency, accuracy and user convenience.
NHAI has also introduced the MargMitra Help Centre, an intelligent digital assistance platform integrated into the RajmargYatra app to provide a single-window support system for National Highway users.
The platform enables commuters to access information, seek assistance and register grievances through a conversational interface where users can type or speak their queries in any of the 22 Indian languages. Based on the query, the system provides relevant information or directs users to the appropriate service.
The Help Centre offers instant assistance on a range of services, including FASTag recharge, KYC requirements, refund status, Annual Pass and Local Pass services, as well as other frequently asked questions.
For issues requiring official intervention, users can directly lodge complaints through MargMitra, which automatically routes them to the concerned department for timely resolution. The platform also allows commuters to track the status of their complaints in real time and file appeals if they are dissatisfied with the resolution.
In addition, MargMitra enables users to check the blacklisting status of their FASTag, view pending electronic notices and report road safety concerns such as stalled vehicles or encroachments on National Highways.
According to NHAI, the launch of the new digital services builds on the success of the RajmargYatra app’s Annual Pass facility, through which more than 80 lakh Annual Passes have already been sold with real-time activation.
The authority has encouraged National Highway users to download the RajmargYatra mobile application on Android and iOS platforms to access the growing range of digital services. NHAI said the latest initiatives reflect its continued efforts to modernise not only India’s highway infrastructure but also the digital experience of commuters by delivering transparent, efficient and citizen-centric services across the National Highway network.
