More than 6.32 crore citizens have registered on the Government of India’s MyGov platform, underscoring the growing role of public participation in policy formulation and governance, according to information shared in the Rajya Sabha by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Launched as a citizen engagement platform, MyGov enables people to contribute to government decision-making by participating in discussions, polls, surveys, creative tasks and on-ground activities. The platform works with various ministries and government departments to seek public feedback on issues of national importance and welfare.
According to the data, MyGov had 6,32,16,167 registered users as of July 10, 2026, with 4,48,10,119 citizens joining the platform during the last five years (July 11, 2021, to July 10, 2026), reflecting a significant increase in citizen engagement.
During the same five-year period, the platform hosted 180 public discussions, attracting 7,77,068 participants. It also conducted 15 polls, which received responses from 30,39,127 citizens, and 56 surveys, with 3,57,431 participants sharing their views.
MeitY said MyGov acts as a facilitative platform, while consultations are initiated and managed by the concerned ministries and departments. Once a consultation concludes, citizen opinions and recommendations are compiled and forwarded to the respective ministry for consideration during the formulation or review of policies, schemes and programmes.
Several major national initiatives have been opened for public consultation through the platform in recent years. These include the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022, the Draft Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, Union Budget consultations, draft amendments to the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance Rules, 2020, reforms in the National Testing Agency examination process, the Draft Data Centre Policy, 2020, the Draft New Textiles Policy, 2020, and the memorandum for the 8th Central Pay Commission.
The ministry clarified that while citizen feedback is shared with the relevant departments, the final decision on whether to accept or incorporate public suggestions into government policies, programmes or administrative measures rests solely with the respective ministries.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the platform, MeitY commissioned independent impact assessment studies in 2017 and 2025. According to the ministry, both assessments concluded that MyGov has significantly broadened public participation in governance through its diverse engagement models.
Based on the recommendations of these studies, MyGov has introduced several improvements to make the platform more inclusive and accessible. It is now available in 12 languages, including English and 11 Indian languages, allowing citizens to participate in their preferred language. A dedicated mobile application has also been launched to improve access for smartphone users.
The platform has further strengthened its outreach through digital and social media while periodically updating its website to improve usability and accessibility.
The ministry said MyGov also regularly reviews user feedback related to the platform’s functioning to further enhance features, multilingual support and overall user experience. However, decisions regarding action taken reports or policy changes based on public consultations remain the responsibility of the concerned ministries and departments.
