PM Modi congratulates Raja Muthupandi on winning silver medal in weightlifting at Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Indian weightlifter Raja Muthupandi for winning a silver medal in the men’s 65 kg event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Highlighting India’s achievement in weightlifting, the Prime Minister said that Raja Muthupandi’s success has made every Indian proud and happy. He also extended his best wishes to the athlete for his future endeavours.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote:

“Another medal for India in Weightlifting!

Congrats to Raja Muthupandi on winning a Silver in the Men’s 65 kg event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. His success makes every Indian happy and proud. My best wishes for his upcoming endeavours.

#CWG2026”

The Indian lifter registered 126kg in snatch and 160kg in clean and jerk, achieving a total score of 286kg. Malaysia’s Aznil Bidin took the gold after setting a new Commonwealth Games record with a 299kg total. With three medals coming from weightlifting on the same day, India’s overall tally reached four medals — including one gold, two silver and one bronze.
